Leadership Network Announces Multi-Site Church Conference, October 24-25, in Chicago

8/9/05

DALLAS, TX—A revolution is under way in today’s church. It’s a movement that is being embraced by large and small congregations alike…a tide that is crossing denominational lines. And most important of all, it’s a shift that will dramatically increase the impact churches have in their local communities.

This revolution is called “multi-site ministry”—and the upcoming Multi-Site Church Conference (www.multi-site.org) in Chicago, IL, on October 24-25 promises to be a landmark event that will introduce hundreds of forward-thinking pastors to this exciting new way to “do church.”

The conference is a joint effort of Leadership Network (a 20-year-old, Dallas-based nonprofit that provides tools, research and guidance to help church leaders maximize their potential) and three of the most successful multi-site churches in the country. Featured presenters include:

  • Dave Ferguson, founding pastor of Community Christian Church in Naperville, IL, a 16-year-old church with more than 4,500 in weekly attendance at eight different sites;
  • Larry Osborne, senior pastor of North Coast Church in Vista, CA, a 27-year old church that has been a leader in “video venue” strategies and currently has more than 5,800 in weekly attendance at five different sites;
  • Greg Surratt, founder and senior pastor of Seacoast Church in Charleston, SC, a 17-year-old church with more than 7,000 in weekly attendance at nine different sites in South Carolina and Georgia.

In the conference’s general sessions, these three visionaries will tell their own very different stories and share what they have learned about successful multi-site ministry. Attendees will gain the practical tools needed to analyze whether multi-site is right for their churches—and, if so, how they can get started.

Greg Ligon, who directs the multi-site initiatives of Leadership Network (www.leadnet.org), says, “The genius of multi-site ministry is that a single church can essentially replicate itself. We call it ‘one church in multiple locations.’ The same essence, the same philosophy, the same ‘DNA,’ but a much greater reach that isn’t limited by the location of the church’s original campus.”

Multi-site ministry does not follow a rigid formula, but rather can adapt to the unique situation and strengths of a given local church. As Ligon notes, “This conference will show that there isn’t a single model for effective multi-site ministry. Our presenters’ three churches, for example, each take a very different approach. Through the Multi-Site Church Conference, we are not seeking to churn out look-alike churches. Rather, our goal is to better equip participants to build their individual strategies and sidestep the most common multi-site pitfalls.”

Breakout sessions at the Multi-Site Church Conference will cover all the essentials for developing and sustaining a successful multi-site ministry, including:

  • Getting Started in Multi-Site
  • Using Video Venues
  • Children’s Ministry
  • Technical Needs and Answers
  • Multiple Teachers/One Message
  • Campus Pastors
  • Worship in a Multi-Site Environment
  • Leadership Development
  • Five Answers to Save Five Years
