Leadership Network Publications Releases The Way of Jesus

7/26/05

DALLAS, TX—Spiritual sojourners, religious refugees, the disenchanted and many individuals in non-Western cultures rarely, if ever, come in contact with the church. As a result, these individuals all too often miss out on potentially life-changing encounters with Jesus.

It’s a result that Jonathan and Jennifer Campbell, authors of the groundbreaking new book The Way of Jesus, are not willing to accept.

In The Way of Jesus, the Campbells present a path for experiencing the simplicity of Jesus in any culture—without the trappings sometimes associated with the institutional church. “The more we experience God at work in Western and non-Western contexts, the more we appreciate the power of the gospel to take root in any culture or among any people,” says Jonathan Campbell.

The Way of Jesus is the most recent title in the popular Leadership Network Publications series, jointly produced by Leadership Network (www.leadnet.org) and leading publisher Jossey-Bass (www.josseybass.com). For the past seven years, the series has delivered thoroughly researched and innovative concepts on a wide range of topics from preeminent thinkers, practitioners and pioneering churches.

In The Way of Jesus, the Campbells recount their own poignant story of looking beyond religious structures and traditions that reduce Jesus to a belief system, a political agenda or an add-on to make life better. And they uncover a way of life that transcends both East and West—a holistic spirituality centered in Jesus. Greg Ligon, Leadership Network’s Publishing Director, observes, “The Way of Jesus is a thoughtful exploration of the intersection of culture, community and spiritual identity—and a stirring call to abandon anything that dilutes or distracts from fully experiencing Jesus.”

The Campbells’ fresh—and eye-opening—ideas flow from a deep storehouse of personal experience and study. For more than 20 years, they have been pioneering spiritual communities, most recently as part of local and international teams that encourage and equip new Christ-centered movements in the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Jonathan earned his Ph.D. from Fuller School of Intercultural Studies and has served as pastor, church planter, trainer and professor at several graduate schools. He also has extensive experience in coaching and consulting with churches, organizations and corporations throughout North America, and parts of Asia, Africa, Europe and Latin America.

Leadership Network’s book publishing initiatives are an important part of the 20-year-old organization’s overall strategy to capture and distribute knowledge to high-impact church leaders—a strategy that also includes a variety of e-newsletters and downloadable concept papers, as well as tapes, videos and other resources. The Way of Jesus is the second of four Leadership Network Publication releases scheduled for 2005. This year’s series launched in April with the well-received Culture Shift by Robert Lewis (Fellowship Bible Church in Little Rock, Ark.), Wayne Cordeiro (New Hope Christian Fellowship in O’ahu, Hawaii) and Warren Bird. Culture Shift explores how a church can use its unique culture to support its God-given vision and unleash its full potential.
