DALLAS, TX—Let’s suppose you operated a wonderfully creative non-profit foundation that for 20 years has helped innovative leaders build some of the largest, healthiest and most dynamic churches in the country. And let’s also say you wanted to bring the groundbreaking—and life-giving—ideas those churches are implementing to as many other pastors and church leaders as you could.
What would you do?
For Leadership Network, the answer was an easy one. For starters, you’d create alliances with two of the most respected Christian book publishing houses in America. Next, you’d build a team of highly experienced ministry and publishing professionals to plan, direct and execute the program.
That’s exactly the strategy that the Dallas-based organization has put in place. Leadership Network has now inked multi-year, multi-title deals with both Zondervan (www.zondervan.com) and Jossey-Bass (www.jossey-bass.com). Leading the charge on both alliances is Publishing Director Greg Ligon, who has successfully managed several other key Leadership Network programs and strategies during his 8 years with the organization. Working closely with Greg to help shape the new programs is consultant Mark Sweeney, whose 30-year career includes stints as publisher at three major Christian publishing houses.
The Leadership Network Innovation Series (Zondervan) will provide pastors and other church leaders with success stories, analyses and practical “how-to” resources for putting truly innovative ideas into practice. Equally exciting, the Leadership Network Publications imprint (Jossey-Bass) will deliver thoroughly researched and innovative concepts from preeminent thinkers, practitioners and pioneering churches.
“Leadership Network has long been committed to bringing the best in innovation to as many pastors and church leaders as possible,” says Tom Wilson, President and CEO of Leadership Network. “Drawing on the strength and expertise of these great publishers will obviously help us do so in powerful new ways. And as the appointments of Greg Ligon and Mark Sweeney show, we will be devoting substantial resources to make the most of this exciting opportunity for our authors—and our readers.”
The two alliances grow out of the strong relationships Leadership Network has developed with Zondervan and Jossey-Bass over the years. As Mark Sweeney notes, “The Zondervan relationship dates back to the 1995 publication of Halftime, our founder Bob Buford’s first best-selling book. And it has continued right up through last year’s From Success to Significance, by Lloyd Reeb, director of Leadership Network’s Halftime initiative (www.halftime.org). We’re excited to extend and build on this rich history through the Leadership Network Innovation Series, a program that will generate up to three new titles in each of the next three years.”
Greg Ligon adds, “Jossey-Bass is also a longstanding friend of Leadership Network. We’ve worked together with Jossey-Bass since 1996 to introduce such well-received titles as Brian McLaren’s A New Kind of Christian (2001). The Leadership Network Publications imprint will allow us to continue bringing trendsetting thought leadership to thousands of Christian leaders for years to come.”
Both alliances are already in full swing. Released just weeks ago was Culture Shift, by Robert Lewis (Fellowship Bible Church in Little Rock, AR), Wayne Cordeiro (New Hope Christian Fellowship in O’ahu, HI) and Warren Bird. The latest of the Leadership Network Publications from Jossey-Bass, Culture Shift explores how a church’s culture can support its God-given vision and unleash its full potential. Leadership Network and Jossey-Bass anticipate that the new imprint will generate 3 to 4 groundbreaking titles each year.
Also slated for publication are the first two titles in the new Leadership Network Innovation Series, namely: Living out the Reformission—Hard Lessons from an Emerging Missional Church by Mark Driscoll and The Multi-Site Church Revolution—Taking Church to Where People Are by Geoff Surratt, Greg Ligon and Warren Bird.
Leadership Network’s book publishing initiatives are an important part of its overall strategy to capture and distribute knowledge to high-impact church leaders—a strategy that includes a variety of e-newsletters and downloadable concept papers, as well as tapes, videos and other resources. Leadership Network also disseminates innovative ideas through a broadcast initiative with Church Communication Network. See www.leadnet.org for specific titles and products.
